The Eurovision Battle Royale 2036, also known as the Eurovision 2036, or the EBR 2036, or more simply France 2036, was the 21st annual edition of the Battle Royale contest that took place in country. A total of 56 countries announced their intent to participate in the event. The Battle Royale consisted of a quarterfinal stage consisting of the lowest placed 24 citizens of the last Eurovision, in which the top two qualified directly to the Grand Final and third to twelfth place qualified to the Group Stage. Following the quarterfinal was the group stage, where four groups of 24 citizens battled it out for a top eight position. The top 8 in each Group would qualify to the Grand Final, in which the remaining 36 citizens battled it out for the final win.

The host country, France, was the winning nation of the 20th edition the year before, which gave them automatic hosting responsibilities for this edition, as well as automatically qualifying them to the Grand Final. The other countries were obliged to compete in either the quarterfinal or the Group Stage, depending on their results in the previous edition. Each citizen was distributed randomly in their groups through a random draw.

The winner of this edition of the Eurovision Battle Royale was Vladislav Lyapin of Russia. At age 50, he became the oldest citizen to win a Battle Royale at the time of his victory. He narrowly defeated Aysu Gunduz of Turkey, who was the huge favorite to win, in an intense final battle, causing the Turk to finish as runner-up. Maximilian Jutzi of Liechtenstein, Emory Dunstan of Northern Ireland, and Tauras Astasevicius of Lithuania completed the Top 5. The host country, France, had it's citizens finishing in 15th and 24th place.

Arena

The Arena for this edition was decided on 19 August, 2035. To no one's surprise, the Grand Final would take place in Paris, with the cornucopia placed iconically under the Eiffel Tower. For the other events, the French EOs decided to follow what other large countries did before and spread them out throughout the country, to showcase their landscape and diversity. The Quarterfinal was for the first time to be taken place inside an Arena that isn't an outfitted stadium; the French EOs decided to use the famous Mont Saint-Michel during high-tide. The Arena for Group A was in the obscure town of Luz-Saint-Sauveur, in the heart of the Pyrenees. Group B was in the glitzy city of Cannes, on the French Riviera. Group C was located in the world-famous ski resort of Chamonix, with the picturesque Mt. Blanc in the background of the Arena for its entirety. Group D would take place in the campagne part of France, in the Oriental National Forest near the city of Troyes.

Format and Rules

The draw to determine in which Group each country would participate, as well as the podium numbers on which the host country's citizens would start, took place in Versailles, on the 1 of December, 2035. Each country had until December 1st to announce their intent to participate in the Eurovision, and each country had until March 1, 2036 to submit their citizens.

The majority of countries chose their citizen through an internal selection, by means of a "Reaping". The reaping occurs when the governments of Europe, each organizes a televised lottery of their citizens where every single one, aged between 13 and 50, are obliged to have their names placed into a big pot of sorts, and after randomizing the names like a true lottery, one male and one female name are read out live on national television by government officials. These citizens are the reaped citizens to represent their country in the Eurovision. It's notable that each year the majority of citizens see this as an exciting honor, and many volunteer to be picked. To profit from this, it's necessary for each hopeful volunteer to pay money in order for their name to be entered more than once. This process could cost from as little as £50 in poorer countries, to £500 in more wealthy ones. The maximum number of times that a volunteer can have their name in a pot is 100. One would think that there wouldn't be that many volunteers for such a violent and life-ending event, but in this universe, the citizens of Europe look extremely positively on the event and see it as rebirth of the Golden Age of Ancient Greece and Rome; therefore, there are thousands of citizens each year who try to volunteer to bring glory and honor to their country.

In the build-up to the actual event, each reaped citizen is invited to many locations all throughout Europe to promote themselves, forge alliances with the other citizens, and talk with potential sponsors. These official parties are announced by the Event Organizers (EOs) usually around the start of the new year. These are televised and watched by millions as well, similar to how millions each year watch the red carpet for award shows.

• Germany: Munich (22 March)
• Serbia: Belgrade (12 April)
• Latvia: Riga (19 April)

These parties aren't obligatory however, and some alternatives to this include immediately moving into the Citizen's Village (usually a high-tec tower or complex located in or near the city center of the most populous city in the host country). In any case, citizens are obliged to move into the Citizen's Village before the 9th of May, 2036. This is because each citizen needs time to get their fitness up and competitive to put on an entertaining TV show, as well as acclimate to the host country. The EOs provide each country and citizen with their own team of trainers, cooks, stylists, and other specialists free of charge to ensure that each citizen can become fit and competitive enough so the Battle Royale will be as entertaining as ever. For the month that the citizens live there, they are encouraged to learn survival techniques and work out so their chances of survival in the harsh Arena increases.

The night before the first semi-final, the Opening Ceremony takes place. Comparable to Olympic ceremonies, this ceremony celebrates the history and culture of the host country, and further includes multiple shows of firework, music, and other cultural and ethnic performances, as well as high-tec displays and other pyrotechnics. Following the cultural show is the Parade of Nations. Each citizen from the participating countries were brought into the main complex (usually the widest and biggest street in the Capitol of the host country) on high-tec self-driving chariots and shown to billions worldwide. More so, each chariot was decorated with symbols from the country each citizen is from, and followed their national flag. As soon as the pomp and celebration finished, the EOs and government officials of the host country gave speeches, the Eurovision Battle Royale flag was raised with the host country's flag, and the citizen's oath. The final event of the ceremony is the lighting of the cauldron, performed by the winner of the previous edition in every edition so far except the first.

Following the Opening Ceremony, the citizens are forced into lockdown in the Citizen's Village until their semi-final. It is forbidden for a citizen to have prior knowledge to results in a semi-final or access to anything that could give them an advantage in their semi-final. In fact, the citizens are forced to go with television and internet until their semi-final. This is to assure that the suspense is retained and each citizen participates fairly.

Tie-Break rules for the Group Stage

• This applies to the Quarterfinal as well

1. Top 8 remaining citizens in live to compete in the Grand Final
2. Of those, they are firstly ranked by number of kills they have committed.
3. If all is still tied, then the Degrees of Separation Rule is enforced.

ex. Jan of Germany kills only Teo of Belgium. Teo of Belgium had killed 2 other citizens beforehand. Erik of Sweden only kills Andriy of Russia. Andriy of Russia had killed 1 citizen beforehand. Jan of Germany will be ranked higher than Erik of Sweden in the rankings.

4. If the citizens still have the same number of kills, then the tie-break favors the one that reached that number of kills the earliest.

5. This Degree of Separation Rule will continue until necessary.

6. If all is still tied, the tie-break favors those who are furthest away from pod numbers 12 and 13.

7. If all is still tied, the tie-break favors those whose age is furthest away from 31 and 32.

8. If all is still tied, then the citizens will share the position.

Quarterfinals

The lowest three performing countries' citizens in each of the four groups of the previous edition were forced to compete in the Quarterfinals. To not prolong the duration of the entire Eurovision, the Quarterfinal is usually placed in a tiny obstacle-filled Arena inside a sports stadium. The Quarterfinal is only meant to last 2 days at most.

This quarterfinal took place on 9 June at the Stadium de Toulouse, in Toulouse, and lasted 3 hours.

Live from the Arena!

Welcome to the start of the Eurovision Battle Royale 2036. We are coming to you live from the iconic city of Paris, which is the location of this year's Arena. In just under 5 minutes, the thirty-two finalists who battled their way through the Group Stage will join the host country's own two automatic qualifiers and the two quarterfinalist qualifiers in the Arena, where they will commence a fight-to-the-death in which only one person will be left standing. That person will forever be honored as a hero in their country and have their name etched in the history books as a Eurovision Battle Royale champion. We can only imagine how nervous the competing citizens must be.

It looks like the citizens are being raised onto their pods. With all the pomp and months of preparations over with, we can finally say with delight: let the 21st Eurovision Battle Royale begin!

Day 1 (July 1)

Senni Siimes of Finland is killed by Margaret Krutova of Russia.

Alexandrina Coelho of Portugal is killed by Katarina Olander of Sweden.

Summary

As per usual, the first day of the Grand Final was very tactical and without much violence. Only two citizens were killed. Senni of Finland was stabbed to death right below the Eiffel Tower, while Alexandrina of Portugal was drowned by Katarina of Sweden in the Seine while trying to flee from her. The remaining 34 citizens are now scattered throughout Paris.

Two citizens died, 34 remain.

Day 2 (July 2)

Vano Okinashvili of Georgia is killed by Avram Nastasić of Serbia.

Summary

An intense heatwave where temperatures peaked at 50 Celsius forced the citizens to seek water in the Seine, so action could happen. Yet, the only incident that occurred was the death of Vano of Georgia. He was hacked to death by Avram of Serbia, who was armed with a small machete.

One citizen died, 33 remain.

Day 3 (July 3)

Laura Csatár of Hungary is killed by Baltabek Akhmetev of Kazakhstan.

Summary

Other than some intense inter-alliance drama, not much has occurred in this Parisian Battle Royale. Once again only one citizen was killed, this time it was Laura of Hungary. She was sighted near the Sorbonne University by Baltabek of Kazakhstan, who tackled her to the ground and strangled her after beating her.

Day 6 (July 6)

Gabriela Zheleva of Bulgaria is killed by Avram Nastasić of Serbia.

Daniela Jánošiká of Slovakia is killed in an ambush by Süleyman Abdullayev of Azerbaijan.

Maja Tomić of Croatia is narrowly defeated in battle by Süleyman Abdullayev of Azerbaijan.

Summary

The most interesting moment of the day came from the surprisingly successful ambush from Süleyman of Azerbaijan against the women of Slovakia and Croatia. The two just looted a Carrefour in the 8th Arrondissement and returned to their hide out in the Marais. They didn't know that Süleyman was there waiting. He tied string near the bottom of the door frame to trip the first one to walk in, which ended up being Daniela, who tripped and landed body first on spikes. Maja of Croatia yelled in fear and confusion, which led to her being attacked by Süleyman. Despite the element of surprise, Maja put up a good fight and managed to bash his head against the wall. Still, it wasn't enough and the Azeri subdued her until she suffocated to death.

Day 7 (July 7)

Lily Lakkotrypis of Cyprus is mercy-killed by her ally Konstantinos Kyriakou of Greece.

Peter Goossens of Belgium is killed by Aysu Gunduz of Turkey.

Marimaite Gogeascoa of Spain is killed by Hervé Meyers of Luxembourg.

Baltabek Akhmetev of Kazakhstan is killed by Estelle Devillers of France.

Summary

Today was very exciting! In the morning, the Greek-Cypriot duo was attacked by the two Russians. 14 year old Konstantinos managed to fight both them off, but that was before realizing his only ally was gravely injured, with her hand nearly severed and bleeding profusely. Lily begged him to kill her, which he did. This occurred near the Gare du Nord.

Next, Peter of Belgium was out exploring the green area near Gentilly when he stumbled upon an obvious trap. He immediately became suspicious and panicked, looking around to see where the other citizen was. It didn't take long for Aysu of Turkey to jump down, tackle the Belgian and then slit his throat.

A bit after the Spanish teen Marimaite was killed by Hervé near the Arc de Triomphe, the host nation erupted in celebration as their own citizen, 18 year old Estelle, managed to kill the Kazakh Baltabek after he tried a crazy ambush against the two French. She beat him to death with a wooden club found in an apartment in the Chaillot area.

Four citizens died, 25 remain.

Day 8 (July 8)

Margaret Krutova of Russia is killed by Aysu Gunduz of Turkey.

Estelle Devillers of France is killed by Aysu Gunduz of Turkey.

Summary

What drama! No one expected what happened today to happen. Around sunset, the two French citizens were attacked by the two Russians while walking along the Seine near the Notre Dame. It was evenly matched and all the cameras focused on the two battles going on, which involved lots of throws, tackles, curb stomps, and twisted limbs. But all of that changed when out of nowhere, an arrow tore through Margaret's skull, instantly killing her and splattering blood all over Estelle. The Russian and the two French citizens paused in fear and confusion, looking for the source of the arrow. Out of nowhere, Aysu - the Turkish citizen- walked from behind the bridge fencing with a crossbow. He aimed again and before the three other shocked citizens could react, he reloaded and shot again, this time at Estelle. It hit her square in the heart, killing her almost instantly. At this point, Vladislav and Rémi both scattered away to safety, with Aysu choosing to pursue the Russian.

As it turns out - us téléspectators managed to find out that he didn't find the crossbow; it was actually a donation. This marks the first time in 21 years that a donation has made a huge impact on the Battle Royale, and has made Aysu a firm favorite to win. Will he live up to hype?

Day 9 (July 9)

Ludwika Zarzycka of Poland is killed by Katarina Olander of Sweden.

Samanta Pjetar of Slovenia is killed by Konstantinos Kyriakou of Greece.

Summary

It was another interesting day. Katarina, armed with throwing knives, chased down Ludwika of Poland and cornered her in an alley-way near 19th arrondissement, where she then stabbed her to death. Later that day, young dark-horse Konstantinos of Greece sat upon a tiled-roof in the Quartier Latin, and dropped one of the tiles onto the citizen below, which turned out to be Samanta of Slovenia. She in actuality didn't die til 2 hours later, which Konstantinos didn't know, meaning she died a horribly painful and slow death all alone. In both cases, the killers received their second kills each in the Grand Final.

Day 10 (July 10)

Mouron Manvelian of Armenia is dismembered by Süleyman Abdullayev of Azerbaijan.

Llamburi Muslimi of Kosovo is killed by Roberte Durand of Monaco.

Tomáš Bureš of Czech Republic is killed by Hervé Meyers of Luxembourg.

Vojtech Skalicky of Slovakia is killed by Aiva Tirele of Latvia.

Avram Nastasić of Serbia is killed by Vladislav Lyapin of Russia.

Summary

It was another day full of action! After a slow first week, this second week is turning into days of non-stop action. The first death was the most controversial. Mouron, the Armenian citizen, was savagely killed by the Azeri Süleyman, who was already a huge favorite to take the victory. The gruesomeness of the kill was most likely due to the half-century long hatred between the two countries.

Tomás of Czech Republic was seen as a potential winner by many, but his life was ended by Hervé of Luxembourg, who is amongst the bookies favorites to win.

Lastly, Avram of Serbia had a strong start to this year's Battle Royale, and he was an early favorite, but he slowly died off and many people forgot about him. Turns out he was hiding in the Bois de Boulogne, which is where he was found by the burly and tough Vladislav of Russia. The two had an insanely intense fight and it could have gone either way, but luck was on the Russian's side. All he did was push the Serb off him, causing Avram to fall back onto the path, where there was a broken glass bottled shatterd around. With the worst luck possible, Avram landed on a large, sharp piece which pierced his spine and paralyzed him. He couldn't move as Vladislav finished the job and killed him off.

Day 11 (July 11)

Borak Ramadani of Albania is killed by Tauras Astasevicius of Lithuania.

Rémi Simon of France is killed by Gordon Stancato of San Marino.

Summary

Thus ends yet another chance for a back-to-back victory. It has yet to happen in the quarter-century-long history of the Eurovision Battle Royale, and it continues as France's remaining citizen was killed. It is somewhat ironic as well; France won in 2035 by killing San Marino. This year, tiny San Marino takes its revenge by killing France's only citizen left in the Battle Royale. Gordon of San Marino was a strong contender from the start, as he was the winner of Group D, yet he has been quiet so far in the Grand Final.

Elsewhere, Tauras of Lithuania got his first kill of the Grand Final. He has been hidden for the majority of the past week and a half, but has decided to come out for the final portion of it. He easily killed the Albanian citizen with a sharpened and speared branch near the Moulin Rouge.

Day 12 (July 12)

Hervé Meyers of Luxembourg is killed by Gordon Stancato of San Marino.

Summary

Gordon of San Marino continues his assault and simultaneoulsy climbs up the bookie's odds list by getting his second kill in two days. This time, he caught a significantly weakened Hervé of Luxembourg off-guard, south of the Eiffel Tower. He beat him, then strangled him to death with his shirt.

One citizen died, 13 remain.

Day 13 (July 13)

Katarina Olander of Sweden is killed by Maximilian Jutzi of Liechtenstein.

Summary

This death came as a shock, since Katarina was doing so well and Maximilian hadn't been seen at all in the two weeks of the Grand Final.

One citizen died, 12 remain.

Day 14 (July 14)

Attention Citizens: The Cornucopia has been replenished with new weapons, medicine, and food.

Roberte Durand of Monaco is killed by Aysu Gunduz of Turkey.

Helga Ottosen of Denmark is killed by Tauras Astasevicius of Lithuania.

Eli Lane of Scotland is killed by Maximilian Jutzi of Liechtenstein.

Aiva Tirele of Latvia is killed by Gordon Stancato of San Marino.

Konstantinos Kyriakou of Greece is killed by Süleyman Abdullayev of Azerbaijan.

Summary

Today was a day of shocks. Many of the fan favorites were killed by those seen as brutal and obvious winners. Eli of Scotland, Aiva of Latvia, and especially Konstantinos of Greece were very popular around the world for their underdog spirit. Yet all their journeys ended today and reality set in: they were never going to win the Battle Royale when put up against fierce, strong men.

Emory of Northern Ireland is the only citizen so far to have survived without encountering anyone else in Paris. The remaining 6 others all have multiple kills and it is literally anyone's for the taking.

Day 15 (July 15)

Süleyman Abdullayev of Azerbaijan is killed by Vladislav Lyapin of Russia.

Gordon Stancato of San Marino is killed by Vladislav Lyapin of Russia.

Summary

We're getting down to the wire here in Paris! After two weeks, we are down to our final 5, and it is literally anyone's for the taking! Two huge favorites to win were just killed. Süleyman of Azerbaijan was killed near the Bataclan theatre by 50 year old Vladislav of Russia. Though he is middle aged, he is still extremely fit and strong due to the logging job he has in Siberia. A couple hours later, Vladislav was in action again, this time by overpowering the Samarinese citizen, Gordon, who was hoping to give San Marino it's first victory after narrowly losing out the year before. He put Gordon in a chokehold until he died, all under the iconic Arc de Triomphe.

Day 16 (July 16)

Tauras Astasevicius of Lithuania is killed by Aysu Gunduz of Turkey.

Summary

It was a mighty fit between two evenly-matched opponents, but in the end it was Aysu of Turkey who overpowered Tauras of Lithuania and stabbed him in the heart, all near the Bastille.

We now only have 4 citizens! Everyone seems to think it will be between burly 50 year old Vladislav of Russia and young, fit Aysu of Turkey, but anything can happen. Maximilian of Liechtenstein also has plenty of kills and threatens to be a dark horse, while Emory of Northern Ireland has still yet to be found! Who will win?

Day 17 (July 17)

Emory Dunstan of Northern Ireland starves to death.

Summary

The mystery has been solved! It turns out Emory of Northern Ireland had been trapped in a partially collapsed building without cameras inside, with no way out! He was trapped for 10 days without food and water, in an apartment complex near the 14th arrondissement. The EO's only realized he was there when the firework went off over the collapsed apartment. What a slow, boring, and terrible way to die in the Eurovision Battle Royale!

Day 19 (July 19)

Maximilan Jutzi of Liechtenstein is killed when the bridge he was walking on over the Seine collapses into it.

Aysu Gunduz of Turkey is killed by Vladislav Lyapin of Russia.

Summary

Ça y est! The winner of the 21st Eurovision Battle Royale is Vladislav Lyapin of Russia, félicitations!

The final two citizens were the ones everyone expected it to be from the beginning. Big, burly, sullen Vladislav of Russia, and thin, fit, young Aysu of Turkey. After Maximilian died in a freak bridge accident over the Seine, each of the pair knew there was only one left. Aysu, still armed with his crossbow he used to kill Vladislav's only ally, Margaret, a week earlier, went looking.
