The Eurovision Battle Royale 2035, also known as the Eurovision 2035, or the EBR 2035, or more Croatia 2035, was the 20th annual edition of the Battle Royale contest that took place in Croatia. A total of 56 countries announced their intent to participate in the event. The Battle Royale consisted of a quarterfinal stage consisting of the lowest placed 24 citizens of the last Eurovision, in which the top two qualified directly to the Grand Final and third to twelfth place qualified to the Group Stage. Following the quarterfinal was the group stage, where four groups of 24 citizens battled it out for a top eight position. The top 8 in each Group would qualify to the Grand Final, in which the remaining 36 citizens battled it out for the final win.

The host country, Croatia, was the surprise winner of the 19th edition the year before, which gave them automatic hosting responsibilities for this edition, as well as automatically qualifying them to the Grand Final. The other countries were obliged to compete in either the quarterfinal or the Group Stage, depending on their results in the previous edition. Each citizen was distributed randomly in their groups through a random draw.

The winner of this edition of the Eurovision Battle Royale was Christian Baumgartner of France. In a dramatic twist at the very end when all thought he was done for, he managed to stab to death Rebecca Giannetta of San Marino, who finished as the runner-up. Andrew Campbell of England, Santiago Sáenz of Spain, and Nadir Marković of Bosnia & Herzegovina completed the Top 5. The host country, Croatia, did comparatively poor than the previous year, with it's citizens finishing in 30th and 31st place.

Arena[]

The Arenas for this edition were decided on 10 November 2034. The Croatian EOs decided to go big for this edition, as in previous editions in England and Russia, and used a different Arena for each Eurovision event, in order to showcase their landscape and culture.

Format and Rules[]

The draw to determine in which Group each country would participate, as well as the podium numbers on which the host country's citizens would start, took place in Rijeka, on the 1st of December, 2034. Each country had until November 30th to announce their intent to participate in the Eurovision, and each country had until March 3rd, 2035 to submit their citizens.

The majority of countries chose their citizen through an internal selection, by means of a "Reaping". The reaping occurs when the governments of Europe, each organizes a televised lottery of their citizens where every single one, aged between 13 and 50, are obliged to have their names placed into a big pot of sorts, and after randomizing the names like a true lottery, one male and one female name are read out live on national television by government officials. These citizens are the reaped citizens to represent their country in the Eurovision. It's notable that each year the majority of citizens see this as an exciting honor, and many volunteer to be picked. To profit from this, it's necessary for each hopeful volunteer to pay money in order for their name to be entered more than once. This process could cost from as little as £50 in poorer countries, to £500 in more wealthy ones. The maximum number of times that a volunteer can have their name in a pot is 100. One would think that there wouldn't be that many volunteers for such a violent and life-ending event, but in this universe, the citizens of Europe look extremely positively on the event and see it as rebirth of the Golden Age of Ancient Greece and Rome; therefore, there are thousands of citizens each year who try to volunteer to bring glory and honor to their country.

In the build-up to the actual event, each reaped citizen is invited to many locations all throughout Europe to promote themselves, forge alliances with the other citizens, and talk with potential sponsors. These official parties are announced by the Event Organizers (EOs) usually around the start of the new year. These are televised and watched by millions as well, similar to how millions each year watch the red carpet for award shows.

The list of Official Parties for this year:

  • Flag of France.svg France: Paris (March 17)
  • Flag of Denmark.svg Denmark: Copenhagen (March 30)
  • Flag of Latvia.svg Latvia: Riga (April 14)
  • Flag of Greece.svg Greece: Athens (April 20)

These parties aren't obligatory however, and some alternatives to this include immediately moving into the Citizen's Village (usually a high-tec tower or complex located in or near the city center of the most populous city in the host country). In any case, citizens are obliged to move into the Citizen's Village before the 4th of May, 2035. This is because each citizen needs time to get their fitness up and competitive to put on an entertaining TV show, as well as acclimate to the host country. The EOs provide each country and citizen with their own team of trainers, cooks, stylists, and other specialists free of charge to ensure that each citizen can become fit and competitive enough so the Battle Royale will be as entertaining as ever. For the month that the citizens live there, they are encouraged to learn survival techniques and work out so their chances of survival in the harsh Arena increases.

The night before the first semi-final, the Opening Ceremony takes place. Comparable to Olympic ceremonies, this ceremony celebrates the history and culture of the host country, and further includes multiple shows of firework, music, and other cultural and ethnic performances, as well as high-tec displays and other pyrotechnics. Following the cultural show is the Parade of Nations. Each citizen from the participating countries were brought into the main complex (usually the widest and biggest street in the Capitol of the host country) on high-tec self-driving chariots and shown to billions worldwide. More so, each chariot was decorated with symbols from the country each citizen is from, and followed their national flag. As soon as the pomp and celebration finished, the EOs and government officials of the host country gave speeches, the Eurovision Battle Royale flag was raised with the host country's flag, and the citizen's oath. The final event of the ceremony is the lighting of the cauldron, performed by the winner of the previous edition in every edition so far except the first.

Following the Opening Ceremony, the citizens are forced into lockdown in the Citizen's Village until their semi-final. It is forbidden for a citizen to have prior knowledge to results in a semi-final or access to anything that could give them an advantage in their semi-final. In fact, the citizens are forced to go with television and internet until their semi-final. This is to assure that the suspense is retained and each citizen participates fairly.

Tie-Break rules for the Group Stage[]

  • This applies to the Quarterfinal as well
  1. Top 8 remaining citizens in live to compete in the Grand Final
  2. Of those, they are firstly ranked by number of kills they have committed.
  3. If all is still tied, then the Degrees of Separation Rule is enforced.
ex. Jan of Germany kills only Teo of Belgium. Teo of Belgium had killed 2 other citizens beforehand. Erik of Sweden only kills Andriy of Russia. Andriy of Russia had killed 1 citizen beforehand. Jan of Germany will be ranked higher than Erik of Sweden in the rankings.
4. If the citizens still have the same number of kills, then the tie-break favors the one that reached that number of kills the earliest.
5. This Degree of Separation Rule will continue until necessary.
6. If all is still tied, the tie-break favors those who are furthest away from pod numbers 12 and 13.
7. If all is still tied, then the citizens will share the position.

Quarterfinals[]

The lowest three performing countries' citizens in each of the four groups of the previous edition were forced to compete in the Quarterfinals. To not prolong the duration of the entire Eurovision, the Quarterfinal is usually placed in a tiny obstacle-filled Arena inside a sports stadium. The Quarterfinal is only meant to last 2 days at most.

This quarterfinal took place on 8 June in Rijeka, and lasted 4 hours.

EBR 2035 Qualifiers

Light blue countries represent those whose female qualified, the dark blue for those whose male qualified, and the medium blue for those who had both citizens qualify for the Grand Final. Countries in red failed to qualify either citizen.

Live from the Arena![]

Welcome to the start of the Eurovision Battle Royale 2035. We are coming to you live from the Plitvice Lakes, which is the location of this year's Arena. In just under 5 minutes, the thirty-two finalists who battled their way through the Group Stage will join the host country's own two automatic qualifiers and the two quarterfinalist qualifiers in the Arena, where they will commence a fight-to-the-death in which only one person will be left standing. That person will forever be honored as a hero in their country and have their name etched in the history books as a Eurovision Battle Royale champion. We can only imagine how nervous the competing citizens must be.

It looks like the citizens are being raised onto their pods. With all the pomp and months of preparations over with, we can finally say with delight: let the 20th Eurovision Battle Royale begin!

Valerij and Zlatko were the surprise deaths, with the two being favorites to win. It was especially hard for host nation Croatia, who already lost one of their two citizens on the first day. Rebecca of San Marino was the citizen of the day, getting 2 kills and immediately establishing herself as a favorite. She stabbed Tansholpan of Kazakhstan in the back amidst the frenzy of citizens fighting and trying to get a bag. After killing her, she was tackled by Madelien of Netherlands. • Ema Totić of Flag of Croatia.svg Croatia is killed by Milyena Rybakova of Flag of Russia.svg Russia.

    Summary []

This has turned out to be a complete reversal of fortunes for Croatia! After all their success last year, the country had high hopes for itself to get a second victory. But he was killed today by the citizen from Liechtenstein, who shot him with a slingshot in the neck, causing him to bleed out an hour later.

    Two citizens died, 26 remain.

    Day 5 (July 3)[]

  • Këndella Raco of Flag of Kosovo.svg Kosovo is killed by Justina Beneyto of Flag of Andorra.svg Andorra.

    Summary []

The Eurovision has really slowed to a dull slumber these past few days with few deaths occurring. The EO's must have something up their sleeve if they're letting this few deaths happen. Këndella of Kosovo was the latest to die, when she accidentally made a noise in the dark forest this evening, attracting Justina of Andorra who shot her with an arrow soon after.

    One citizen died, 25 remain.

  • Milyena Rybakova of Flag of Russia.svg Russia is killed by Ruža Nanuševski of Flag of Serbia.svg Serbia.

  • Zdravko Nastašic of Flag of Montenegro.svg Montenegro bleeds out due to untreated injuries.

    Summary []

    Finally, some drama!

The two citizens from Serbia and Montenegro were allied together deep in the forest of the Arena. The two were hunting when they spotted Milyena of Russia in the distance, just walking. They stalked her for a bit, before Zdravko beckoned to Ruža to kill her. From afar, Ruža used her advanced slingshot to pierce Milyena in the back with a sharpened stone, paralyzing her. She walked over her to finish the job, but just as she did that she heard a struggle! She looked up and saw Nico of Portugal crouched over Zdravko, covered in blood. Nico looked up, revealing a knife deep into Zdravko's chest. Ruža yelled and chased after Nico in a rage. He only made it a short ways away before she tackled him to the floor and started to pound his head. With a stone, she jabbed it into his eye before flipping him over and stomping on his head and kicking him until it was clear that Nico was dead. In tears and in total shock, Ruža sprinted back to Zdravko, with whom she was able to hear his final words before dying a couple minutes later. Now alone and surrounded by death, Ruža walked away from the scene into the night.

This is what the Eurovision is all about! Total drama and heartbreak, which only builds character and creates winners.

    Three citizens died, 22 remain.

    Day 7 (July 5)[]

  • Jasmin Mihail of Flag of Greece.svg Greece is killed by Silvana Mazneikova of Flag of Macedonia.svg Macedonia.

    Summary []

More drama from the Arena, though not the good kind. Given the recent political tension between Greece and Macedonia, it was not a good thing that Silvana of Macedonia chased down and speared Jasmin of Greece in the back out in the fields near the hotel. Huge protests of indignation have broken out across Greece, with some anti-Macedonian riots occurring in Thessaloniki.

But the noise of that battle attracted nearby Yeganÿ of Azerbaijan, who went to investigate and decided to attack. Camilla killed her as well.

    Two citizens died, 19 remain.

    Day 9 (July 7)[]

  • Ulric Clavagué of Flag of Andorra.svg Andorra is killed by Justina Beneyto of Flag of Andorra.svg Andorra.

After she woke up and upon discovering the Ulric was asleep, out of nowhere she got her knife and started stabbing him to death. He instantly woke up screaming in pain and bleeding profusely, but she kept going out it. Ulric eventually died. Then to the horror of millions around the world, with a crazed look in her eye she climbed the nearest tall tree, then jumped off backwards! The whole world watched this murder-suicide in horror, until EOs confirmed that Justina was not dead, just in a coma! So her attempt failed, and she is still alive but might as well be dead.

  • Abram Mocenigo of Flag of Italy.svg Italy is killed by Millicent Tsuyame of Flag of Ireland.svg Ireland.

  • Millicent Tsuyame of Flag of Ireland.svg Ireland is killed by Gudbjørg Bleken of Flag of the Faroe Islands.svg Faroe Islands.

    Summary []

What a shame! The odd trio of Millicent of Ireland, Christian of France, and Marinko of Serbia had been hiding out for the most part and avoiding the bloodshed. But they couldn't avoid today and their numbers are just down to two. First, Marinko was attacked by Abram of Italy as he went out hunting for berries. Millicent and Christian heard this and ran over to help. It was easy for young Millicent to kill Abram, who reached Marinko first, because over a week with little food had made Abram gaunt. The three were shell-shocked that someone found them and were jumpy. It made them paranoid for the rest of the day, but it served no favors when Gudbjørg of Faroe Islands came at night while Millicent kept watch. She went to explore a noise which turned out to be her, and put her hand over Millicent's mouth as she slit her throat and ran away before the fireworks woke up Christian and Marinko.

    Three citizens died, 15 remain.

    Day 11 (July 9)[]

  • Mirbana Krasnicki of Flag of Albania.svg Albania is killed by Galdur Birnirsson of Flag of Iceland.svg Iceland.
  • Gudbjørg Bleken of Flag of the Faroe Islands.svg Faroe Islands is killed by Eva West of 1280px-Flag of England.svg England.

    Summary []

She's back! The top favorite to win had been hiding for nearly two weeks, but it looks like Eva of England is ready to retake her crown from Ruža of Serbia as top favorite to win, despite only having one kill. Gudbjørg had just finished killing two citizens in a row yesterday, making Eva killing her a huge deal for the odds. Will she bring victory back to England? In other news, young Galdur of Iceland got his second kill after killing Mirbana of Albania in a trap right on one of the lakeshores.

    Two citizens died, 13 remain.

    Day 12 (July 10)[]

Attention Citizens: A wildfire has just started burning in the deep forest and is spreading quickly. Take shelter!

  • Galdir Birnirsson of Flag of Iceland.svg Iceland burns to death in the blaze.
  • Ruža Nanuševski of Flag of Serbia.svg Serbia drowns while trying to swim across a lake to escape the fire.
  • Ozel Tozlu of Flag of Turkey.svg Turkey is hit in the head by falling flaming debris and dies.
  • Marinko Brdanin of Flag of Serbia.svg Serbia is trapped in the blaze and dies before his ally Christian can save him.

    Summary []

This completely changes things! All the top favorites have been killed by the Arena event, which by the way is one of the first Arena Events in years, and because of that the race to be the 20th Eurovision Battle Royale winner is wide open. Eva of England and Ruža of Serbia were the main favorites to win, followed by Mylene of Liechtenstein and Galdir of Iceland. All were killed in the fire. The last death in the Arena event was desperately dramatic and depressing, even for Eurovision standards.

The odd ally trio of Christian of France, Marinko of Serbia, and Millicent of Ireland was explained over the past two weeks slowly through listening to their conversations. Christian has three sons and a daughter, with his oldest son being the same age as Marinko and Millicent, so he took them in as allies to protect them at all costs, hoping one of them would win instead of him, because he believed it wasn't fair that they were chosen and they reminded him of his kids.

Just two days prior, Christian and Marinko woke to the sound of Millicent being murdered. He was absolutely devastated and angered that he failed to protect her. He became even more protective of Marinko, until today when he also died.

Marinko separated from Christian in the forest near Prošćansko Lake to relieve himself when the Arena Event message occurred. The fire spread insanely fast, and by the time Christian sprinted to where Marinko was, a wall of fire separated the two. Christian tried climbing a tree, but it soon caught fire and he was forced to jump down, spraining his ankle. In the meantime, Marinko failed to jump over the fire and had now started to catch on fire. He screamed for Christian to save himself, but he wouldn't leave him to die. Soon enough the fire consumed Marinko, and his lungs filled with the thick smoke. Despite the cries and efforts of Christian, Marinko died a few minutes later, with his burnt body being nearly unrecognizable. This traumatized and depressed Christian, who was now determined to win in Marinko and Millicent's victory. He's not a favorite to win at all, but he is definitely the number one favorite of the whole world! Billions around the world have watched him protect the younger citizens as if they were his own children and basically be a hero. He would be an extremely popular winner.

    Seven citizens died, 6 remain.

    Day 13 (July 11)[]

Attention Citizens! To make it up for yesterday's tragedy, the EOs have organized a feast. The Cornucopia has been replenished with everything you can think of.

  • Camilla Dagfinnursdottir of Flag of Iceland.svg Iceland is killed by Rebecca Giannetta of Flag of San Marino.svg San Marino.
  • Nadir Markovic of Flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina.svg Bosnia & Herzegovina is killed by Andrew Campbell of 1280px-Flag of England.svg England.

    Summary []

Things are getting extremely exciting! The entire planet believes that we will head to San Marino next year thanks to Rebecca, she has 3 kills now! The 29 year old has been a real force in the Eurovision so far, and it's hard to imagine her not winning. Andrew of England got his first kill today by strangling Nadir of Bosnia to death during a fight, which makes him second favorite to win. Christian of France, the people's favorite, has still yet to make an impact, with 0 kills. Yet he was strong today, managing to break Santiago of Spain's nose before running away with his supplies and a picture of his four children, and a necklace locket of a picture of him, Millicent, and Marinko smiling during a training session in May. It would be the best outcome that can come from this tragedy of a Eurovision for Christian.

    Two citizens died, 4 remain.

    Day 14 (July 12)[]

    There were no events today.

    Day 15 (July 13)[]

    There were no events today.

    Day 16 (July 14)[]

Santiago Sáenz of Flag of Spain.svg Spain is killed by Christian Baumgartner of Flag of France.svg France.

    Summary []

After days of non-action, Christian got his first kill of the Eurovision Finals after being attacked by Santiago of Spain! Wandering through the forests in the far south of the Arena, he had only realized that Santiago had an arrow pointing at him from the shadows only a few milliseconds before he released his finger. He rolled away, and Santiago lunged at him. They fist fought for a bit before Christian got the upper hand and put his palms around Santiago's throat to weaken him, then finished him off by strangling him with some rope he had in his pocket.

This puts Christian in contention to win. The "father of the century" as the world is calling him is tied second favorite to win, as everyone still thinks Rebecca of San Marino will take him the victory.

    One citizen died, 3 remain.

    Day 17 (July 15)[]

  • Andrew Campbell of 1280px-Flag of England.svg England is killed by Christian Baumgartner of Flag of France.svg France.
  • Rebecca Giannetta of Flag of San Marino.svg San Marino is killed by Christian Baumgartner of Flag of France.svg France.

    Summary []

And that's it! In a complete upset victory, the winner of the 20th Eurovision Battle Royale is Christian Baumgartner of France! Congratulations!

In a stunning turn of events, Christian has won it all, despite being an underdog from the start. After the deaths of Marinko and Millicent, something changed in him. It seemed like he was determined to win the Eurovision for them. His first kill against the Spanish citizen was lucky, as he didn't seek him out. But this morning, he actively searched out the remaining two citizens. He found Andrew of England bathing in Korana lake, then waited until he got out to throw a knife into his torso. Now he knew it was only two of them left.

The sky grew dark among the half barren and charred forest as he sleuthed across it. He decided to check at the cornucopia to see if she was there; which she was! But she set up a perimeter trap with the new supplies. He stepped right into an indian foot trap! He yelled out in pain, attracting Rebecca's attention. What everyone knew would happen looked like it was about to happen: Rebecca would win, and "father of the century" was going to tragically become second. She walked up to him with a blank look on her face. But she wasn't prepared for what would come next: despite his right leg being shredded and bloody, in a flash he grabbed his slingshot and rock, aimed it at her torso, then released the trigger. Before she could react, the rock pierced her chest, knocking her to the floor. The whole world watched in shock as it looked like Rebecca wouldn't win after all. Christian grotesquely and through extreme pain lifted his shredded and mangled leg out of the trap while Rebecca lay bleeding on the floor. He struggled to crawl over to her, who by know was gasping for breath with the piercing rock sticking halfway out of her chest. The scene was dramatic and the world held its breath as billions waited to see what Christian would do. He wobbled to her side, grabbed his knife, and with closed eyes stabbed her three times in the chest. Rebecca barely made noise as she bled out to death. Christian dropped the bloody knife and collapsed to the ground, looking up at the starry Croatian dusk sky, bleeding to death too. The EO helicopters and medical team arrived only two minutes later to escort the winner out of the Arena.
