The Eurovision Battle Royale 2033, also known as the Eurovision 2033, or the EBR 2033, or more simply Moldova 2033, was the 18th annual edition of the Battle Royale contest that took place in Chișinău, Moldova. A total of 56 countries announced their intent to participate in the event. For the first time since its inception, the Battle Royale went under a major change of format. For the first time, a quarterfinal was held consisting of two newcomer citizens from newly-formed Catalonia, and the 22 lowest performing citizens from their country during the previous Eurovision. The top 2 citizens in the Quarterfinal qualified for the Grand Final, while citizens placed 3rd to 12th went on to the Group stage, which consisted of 4 groups of 24, of which the top 8 citizens qualified to the Grand Final.

The host country, Moldova, was the winning nation of the 17th edition the year before, which gave them automatic hosting responsibilities for this edition, as well as automatically qualifying them to the Grand Final. The other countries were obliged to compete in either the quarterfinal or the group stage, with each being distributed randomly through a random draw. During the semi-finals, 24 citizens participated in a fight to the death until only 8 citizens remained, with the remaining qualifying for the Grand Final in which another fight to the death would take place, this time until only one remained.

The winner of this edition of the Eurovision Battle Royale was Sergei Kostić of Montenegro. He defeated Arkadios Georgiades of Cyprus, who finished in third place. Shortly after, Indra De Roock, the favorite to win, was killed in the final Arena Event earthquake, causing her to place second and also granted Sergei his victory. Gelormo Camenzuli of Malta and Jade Rondeau completed the Top 5. The host country, Moldova, had it's citizens finishing in 13th and 18th place.

Arena[]

The Arena for this edition was decided on 24 November 2032. Moldova, due to budget concerns, reverted to using just one Arena as opposed to a different arena for each event. This was in part due to the "great changes" that were hinted at during an EO meeting in September 2032. The changes were later revealed to be the introduction of relegation and quarterfinal systems, with smaller "groups" of semi-finals.

The choice of Chișinău was seen as an obvious one, as a country as flat and small as Moldova had no real candidates for a suitable Arena. The Arena obstacles were wild muttation dogs and rats, as well as collapsing buildings at random times.

The yellow star designates the location of the Cornucopia, and the red lines represent the border location, with everything inside being considered part of the Arena.

Format and Rules[]

The draw to determine in which semi-final each country would participate, as well as the podium numbers on which the host country's citizens would start, took place in Chișinău, on the 3rd of December, 2032. Each country had until December 1st to announce their intent to participate in the Eurovision, and each country had until March 4, 2033 to submit their citizens.

The majority of countries chose their citizen through an internal selection, by means of a "Reaping". The reaping occurs when the governments of Europe, each organizes a televised lottery of their citizens where every single one, aged between 13 and 50, are obliged to have their names placed into a big pot of sorts, and after randomizing the names like a true lottery, one male and one female name are read out live on national television by government officials. These citizens are the reaped citizens to represent their country in the Eurovision. It's notable that each year the majority of citizens see this as an exciting honor, and many volunteer to be picked. To profit from this, it's necessary for each hopeful volunteer to pay money in order for their name to be entered more than once. This process could cost from as little as £50 in poorer countries, to £500 in more wealthy ones. The maximum number of times that a volunteer can have their name in a pot is 100. One would think that there wouldn't be that many volunteers for such a violent and life-ending event, but in this universe, the citizens of Europe look extremely positively on the event and see it as rebirth of the Golden Age of Ancient Greece and Rome; therefore, there are thousands of citizens each year who try to volunteer to bring glory and honor to their country.

In the build-up to the actual event, each reaped citizen is invited to many locations all throughout Europe to promote themselves, forge alliances with the other citizens, and talk with potential sponsors. These official parties are announced by the Event Organizers (EOs) usually around the start of the new year. These are televised and watched by millions as well, similar to how millions each year watch the red carpet for award shows.

The list of Official Parties for this year:

  • Flag of Belgium.svg Belgium: Brussels (12 March)
  • Flag of Romania.svg Romania: Bucharest (26 March)
  • Flag of Turkey.svg Turkey: Istanbul (8 April)
  • Flag of Denmark.svg Denmark: Aalborg (22 April)

These parties aren't obligatory however, and some alternatives to this include immediately moving into the Citizen's Village (usually a high-tec tower or complex located in or near the city center of the most populous city in the host country). In any case, citizens are obliged to move into the Citizen's Village before the 7 of May, 2033 This is because each citizen needs time to get their fitness up and competitive to put on an entertaining TV show, as well as acclimate to the host country. The EOs provide each country and citizen with their own team of trainers, cooks, stylists, and other specialists free of charge to ensure that each citizen can become fit and competitive enough so the Battle Royale will be as entertaining as ever. For the month that the citizens live there, they are encouraged to learn survival techniques and work out so their chances of survival in the harsh Arena increases.

The night before the first semi-final, the Opening Ceremony takes place. Comparable to Olympic ceremonies, this ceremony celebrates the history and culture of the host country, and further includes multiple shows of firework, music, and other cultural and ethnic performances, as well as high-tec displays and other pyrotechnics. Following the cultural show is the Parade of Nations. Each citizen from the participating countries were brought into the main complex (usually the widest and biggest street in the Capitol of the host country) on high-tec self-driving chariots and shown to billions worldwide. More so, each chariot was decorated with symbols from the country each citizen is from, and followed their national flag. As soon as the pomp and celebration finished, the EOs and government officials of the host country gave speeches, the Eurovision Battle Royale flag was raised with the host country's flag, and the citizen's oath. The final event of the ceremony is the lighting of the cauldron, performed by the winner of the previous edition in every edition so far except the first.

Following the Opening Ceremony, the citizens are forced into lockdown in the Citizen's Village until their semi-final. It is forbidden for a citizen to have prior knowledge to results in a semi-final or access to anything that could give them an advantage in their semi-final. In fact, the citizens are forced to go with television and internet until their semi-final. This is to assure that the suspense is retained and each citizen participates fairly.

Top 2 countries in the Quarterfinal go directly to the Final, while 3rd - 12th place must go to the next semifinals. Bottom 3 countries in each semi-final must participate in the Quarter Final the following year.

Tie-Break rules for the Semi-Finals[]

  1. Top 8 remaining citizens in each semi-final all live to compete in the Grand Final
  2. Of those, they are firstly ranked by number of kills they have committed.
  3. If all is still tied, then the Degrees of Separation Rule is enforced. (for those tied with 2+ kills, this is applied first)
ex. Jan of Germany kills only Teo of Belgium. Teo of Belgium had killed 2 other citizens beforehand. Erik of Sweden only kills Andriy of Russia. Andriy of Russia had killed 1 citizen beforehand. Jan of Germany will be ranked higher than Erik of Sweden in the semi-finals.
4. If the citizens still have the same number of kills, then the tie-break favors the one that reached that number of kills the earliest. (this only applies to citizens with 1 kill)
5. This Degree of Separation Rule will continue until necessary.
6. If all is still tied, the tie-break favors those who are furthest away from pod number 12.
7. If all is still tied, then the citizens will share the position.

Quarterfinals[]

The lowest 22 performing countries' citizens in each semi-final of the previous year were forced to compete in the first ever Quarterfinals in Eurovision history, in addition to the debuting Catalan citizens. To not prolong the duration of the entire Eurovision, the Quarterfinal is usually placed in a tiny obstacle-filled Arena inside a sports stadium. The Quarterfinal is only meant to last 2 days at most.

This quarterfinal took place on 2 June, and lasted 4.5 hours.

The Grand Final

EBR 2033 Qualifiers

Light blue countries represent those whose female qualified, the dark blue for those whose male qualified, and the medium blue for those who had both citizens qualify for the Grand Final. Countries in red failed to qualify either citizen.

Live from the Arena![]

Welcome to the start of the Eurovision Battle Royale 2033. We are coming to you live from Chișinău, which is the location of this year's Arena. In just under 5 minutes, the thirty-two finalists who battled their way through the semi-finals, and the top two finishers in the quarterfinal, will join the host country's own two automatic qualifiers in the Arena, where they will commence a fight-to-the-death in which only one person will be left standing. That person will forever be honored as a hero in their country and have their name etched in the history books as a Eurovision Battle Royale champion. We can only imagine how nervous the competing citizens must be.

It looks like the citizens are being raised onto their pods. With all the pomp and months of preparations over with, we can finally say with delight: let the 18th Eurovision Battle Royale begin!

Day 1 (June 24)[]

  • Fabien Arceneaux of Flag of France.svg France is killed by Indra De Roock of Flag of Belgium.svg Belgium.
  • Lorenzo Murabito of Flag of Italy.svg Italy is killed by Chloe Weidmann of 1280px-Flag of Austria.svg Austria.
  • Sogghomon Babaian of Flag of Armenia.svg Armenia is killed by Amanta Casas of Flag of Andorra.svg Andorra.
  • Seweryn Borowiak of Flag of Poland.svg Poland is killed by Amanta Casas of Flag of Andorra.svg Andorra.
  • Kostya Sapogov of Flag of Russia.svg Russia is heavily injured and is mercy-killed by his ally Aleksandra Dounar of Flag of Belarus.svg Belarus.
  • Bogdan Obradović of Flag of Serbia.svg Serbia is killed by Harry Farbridge of Flag of Wales.svg Wales.

    Summary []

This concludes Day 1. It was a cloudy, gloomy mid-afternoon in Chișinău when the citizens ran towards the Cornucopia at the commencement of this year's Eurovision. Big favorites like Fabien, Lorenzo, and Kostya were killed almost immediately at the bloodbath, which was a shock. The surprise-citizens of the day were the only two citizens who had to go through both the quarterfinals and the semi-finals: Amanta of Andorra, who got 2 kills, and Harry of Wales, who now has 1.

    Six citizens died, 30 remain.

    Day 2 (June 25)[]

    There were no events today.

    Day 3 (June 26)[]

  • Amanta Casas of Flag of Andorra.svg Andorra is killed by Diogo Águas of Flag of Portugal.svg Portugal.
  • Maria Honigsberg of 1280px-Flag of Germany.svg Germany is killed by Alex Maurice of Flag of Monaco.svg Monaco.
  • Alex Maurice of Flag of Monaco.svg Monaco is killed by Augustina Gheorghita of Flag of Moldova.svg Moldova.
  • Aleksandra Dounar of Flag of Belarus.svg Belarus is killed by Barna Nagy of Flag of Hungary.svg Hungary.

    Summary []

After a quiet second day, this third day was full of surprises. First, Amanta of Andorra was killed despite being the strongest citizen of the first day. Second, Alex of Maurice was killed nearly immediately after he just finished killing another citizen. Coincidentally, it was committed by the host nation's own citizen, Augustina. Lastly, Aleksandra of Belarus seemed like a tough citizen to kill, but fellow quarterfinalist-survivor Barna of Hungary killed her easily in the rural edges of the city.

    Four citizens died, 26 remain.

    Day 4 (June 27)[]

    There were no events today.

    Day 5 (June 28)[]

  • Harry Farbridge of Flag of Wales.svg Wales is killed by Jade Rondeau of Flag of France.svg France.
  • Casimiro Altobello of Flag of San Marino.svg San Marino is killed by Chloe Weidmann of 1280px-Flag of Austria.svg Austria.
  • Renato Borić of Flag of Croatia.svg Croatia is killed in a trap by Chloe Weidmann of 1280px-Flag of Austria.svg Austria.
  • Madeline Trudgeon of Flag of Scotland.svg Scotland is killed by Severin Gerstmann of 1280px-Flag of Germany.svg Germany.

    Summary []

The Germanics dominated the Eurovision today. Harry and Madeline were the surprise deaths, especially Madeline as she won her Group through witty traps and was predicted to do well. But unfortunately for her, she was seen trying to hide and set a trap by Severin of Germany, and he easily strangled her with his chain weapon. Chloe of Austria, the other Germanic, got her 2nd and 3rd kills today, at just age 13. Many think her cunning traps and stealth can make her the youngest champion in history.

    Four citizens died, 22 remain.

    Day 6 (June 29)[]

  • Rosie Danton of 1280px-Flag of England.svg England is killed by Jade Rondeau of Flag of France.svg France.
  • Katerina Lyudmilova of Flag of Bulgaria.svg Bulgaria is killed by Levin Busenhart of Flag of Luxembourg.svg Luxembourg.
  • Andrusha Tereschenko of Flag of Russia.svg Russia dies of dehydration and fatigue.
  • Veton Sprostranov of Flag of Macedonia.svg Macedonia is killed by Chloe Weidmann of 1280px-Flag of Austria.svg Austria.

    Summary []

This 13 year old genius from Austria might be the most bizarre and popular winner ever. She is rarely seen on camera, yet the Event Organizers of course know she is the one performing the "mysterious" kills since they have eyes and trackers on everybody. Chloe killed Veton of Macedonia, by doing a trip wire into an apartment block that lead to a cement block falling on top of his head. In other news, Andrusha of Russia - a former favorite - died of dehydration after having failed to find a water source since Day 1. Lastly, Jade of France is looking like a potential champion, getting her second kill of the Eurovision against Rosie of England, a formidable citizen.

    Four citizens died, 18 remain.

    Day 7 (June 30)[]

  • Augustina Gheorghita of Flag of Moldova.svg Moldova is killed by Axel Göransson of Flag of Sweden.svg Sweden.
  • Levin Busenhart of Flag of Luxembourg.svg Luxembourg is killed by Barna Nagy of Flag of Hungary.svg Hungary.
  • Summary []

It was a quieter night, but a sad one for the host country. The first of their two citizens was killed - Augustina, the only one of the two to have made any participation in events during the Eurovision. Axel of Sweden was the killer, finally coming out of seclusion to find food, of which he had run out. Levin of Luxembourg was killed by Barna, which is not a surprise since Barna is seen as a dark horse.

    Two citizen died, 16 remain.

    Day 8 (July 1)[]

  • Helene Jakobson of Flag of Norway.svg Norway is killed by Maikki Rantala of Flag of Finland.svg Finland.
  • Margery Fuchs of Flag of Northern Ireland.svg Northern Ireland is killed by Severin Gerstmann of 1280px-Flag of Germany.svg Germany.
  • Lubomír Šimek of Flag of the Czech Republic.svg Czech Republic is chased down and killed by rabid muttation dogs.

    Summary []

Maikki of Finland seems to finally be showing her worth, or maybe that was her plan: wait until the very end to show her true strength to increase her chances of survival. In any case, she killed the Norwegian citizen in an even match in the heart of Chisinau. Severin of Germany is proving more and more to be a contender to win after he got his second kill by killing Margery of Northern Ireland. Lastly, Lubomír of Czechia had been starving since Day 1, and he was too weak and feeble to outrun them, and was subsequently mauled to death.

    Three citizens died, 13 remain.

    Day 9 (July 2)[]

    There were no events today.

    Day 10 (July 3)[]

  • Alexandru Baciu of Flag of Moldova.svg Moldova is killed by Indra De Roock of Flag of Belgium.svg Belgium.
  • Chloe Weidmann of 1280px-Flag of Austria.svg Austria is killed by her own trap while climbing down a tree.

    Summary []

More shock! The number one favorite to win, Chloe of Austria, was ironically killed by her very own trap. She was running away from the wild muttation dog pack that has been terrorizing the arena for the past few days, and in her adrenaline-fueled state, she didn't realize that she climbing the same tree she set a trap on just a few days previous. As she climbed, her hand pierced a bark colored spike, causing her to fall down and land on grass colored spikes, and die. In other news, the host country of Moldova's last citizen was killed, this time by Indra of Belgium, who many see as a potential dark horse due to her only killing when necessary, and being strong.

    Two citizens died, 11 remain.

    Day 11 (July 4)[]

Attention Citizens: the Cornucopia, located in the center plaza of Chisinau, has been replenished overnight with food, water, medicine, and new weapons. Good luck.

  • Barna Nagy of Flag of Hungary.svg Hungary is killed by Gelormo Camenzuli of Flag of Malta.svg Malta.
  • Maikki Rantala of Flag of Finland.svg Finland is killed by Jade Rondeau of Flag of France.svg France.
  • Severin Gerstmann of 1280px-Flag of Germany.svg Germany is killed by Diogo Águas of Flag of Portugal.svg Portugal.

    Summary []

Wow! We're really down to the wire now and it looks like anyone can win it now. Barna was a dark horse to win, but out of nowhere Gelormo of Malta decided to show his true colors and was able to overpower and slit the throat of Barna at the cornucopia. Later on, Jade and Maikki got into a fight. Many thought Jade would win since she was the stronger citizen, and they were right: she was able to stab Maikki twice in the chest and leave her to die. But the most surprising came from the two male citizens from Germany and Portugal. The two hadn't been seen in a few days and many thought they could be weak, but no: they were still strong. The two's battle could have been a final one to decide the champion, but alas it wasn't and the more athletic and lithe Diogo of Portugal managed to slash Severin with a sword, right as Severing was about to swing his medieval morning star instrument at him.

    Three citizens died, 8 remain.

    Day 12 (July 5)[]

  • Axel Göransson of Flag of Sweden.svg Sweden is killed by Indra De Roock of Flag of Belgium.svg Belgium.
  • Diogo Águas of Flag of Portugal.svg Portugal is killed by Jade Rondeau of Flag of France.svg France.

    Summary []

This Eurovision has been filled with more twists and turns than usual. Now we have two main favorites dead, and things getting closer and closer to the end. Let's assess the remaining citizens.

Jade of France seems to be the favorite, with 4 kills, followed closely by Indra of Belgium, who has 3. The two have been the most active and dangerous throughout the battle royale, but as always, it's usually the favorites that get surprisingly killed at the end. Third favorite to win is Gelormo of Malta. He isn't seen much, but he has three total kills throughout the entire Eurovision and when he IS seen, he is extremely lethal despite his age. Behind him is Sergei of Montenegro. He won Group A and many thought he would be a stand-out star, but he has yet to have even crossed another citizen so far in the Grand Final. Roseline of Luxembourg is after him. She obtained one kill in her Group, but like Sergei hasn't been seen at all in the Grand Final. Lastly, Arkadios of Cyprus was predicted by absolutely no one to make it out of his Group, yet he did, then no one expected him to make it past the first day of the Grand Final, yet here he is, in the top 6. He has no kills, is rather middle-aged, and could easily be beaten by any of the remaining citizens. Will he pull of a miraculous victory for the tiny Mediterranean island?

    Two citizens died, 6 remain.

    Day 13 (July 6)[]

    There were no events today.

    Day 14 (July 7)[]

  • Roseline Jaubert of Flag of Luxembourg.svg Luxembourg is killed by Gelormo Camenzuli of Flag of Malta.svg Malta.
  • Jade Rondeau of Flag of France.svg France is caught in a collapsing apartment building and dies.
  • Gelormo Camenzuli of Flag of Malta.svg Malta is killed by Arkadios Georgiades of Flag of Cyprus.svg Cyprus.

    Summary []

We have a stunning turn of events here in Chisinau! Two of the top three favorite citizens to win, Jade of France and Gelormo of Malta, have been killed very surprisingly. After all this, it looked like France would get that first victory they desperately crave. Jade made it so close, but with extremely terrible luck she was caught in one of the collapsing apartment buildings. She realized this, and sprinted down the apartment block stairs, but couldn't reach the exit in time and was crushed in the collapse. Later, Gelormo was drinking in a pond in one of the western parks when out of nowhere a shadow loomed over him; it was Arkadios of Cyprus with a shovel! He repeatedly hit Gelormo with it, and even sliced his face with the sharp sides, until Gelormo was dead.

Well that certainly proved the world wrong! Many people didn't think Arkadios had it in him. Of course, over the past 18 years we've seen countless citizens pretend to be weak until the very end, then show their true strengths. Arkadios legitimately fooled everyone into thinking he was a frail old man, even viewers at home. He is now joint favorite to win, along with Indra of Belgium. Sergei of Montenegro is a bit far behind, but anyone could win, and we have a feeling it will happen within the next day!

    Three citizens died, 3 remain.

    Day 15 (July 8)[]

    There were no events today.

    Day 16 (July 9)[]

Attention Citizens! A huge earthquake has been predicted to strike within 10 seconds of the end of this message. Find safety and good luck!

  • Arkadios Georgiades of Flag of Cyprus.svg Cyprus is killed by Sergei Kostić of Flag of Montenegro.svg Montenegro.
  • Indra De Roock of Flag of Belgium.svg Belgium is killed by a falling building.

    Summary []

And that's it. In a surprise twist, the winner of the 18th Eurovision Battle Royale is Sergei Kostić of Montenegro, congratulations!
